Can You Hear Sound In Your Mind?

As a kid, I often wondered if everyone thought the same way. When people said or did a certain task, did they think the same way? Did they hear the same sound when they heard a knock at the door? The sound of the pencil writing against the paper?  Did people interpret the sound the same as I did? Did the sound affect their thoughts the same?

Well, as I got older, I discovered that not everyone processes or thinks the same. There is a phenomenon called "Inner Monologue". Imagine reading a book to yourself and you are reading silently. Your mouth is not verbally saying anything. You are reading the words in your mind. Now imagine that you can actually hear your own voice, reading what you are seeing. Another example is If you are working out a math problem and you are taking a test. Some people can work out a problem verbally in their head. They can actually hear their selves working out the math problem. This is not to be mistaken with "Auditory Hallucinations": Hearing sounds that are not there, coming from the exterior space around them. When people talk about this subject, The first thing they think of is a person with a mental disorder and being schizophrenic. These are completely different phenomena's that we are discussing here.

There are some people who don't have this voice. They don't hear sound in their mind. Any sound. They see images. People with an inner monologue hear sound in the mind and also see imagery as well. This really fascinated me. To know people, perceive and process information completely different than others. This was already known in a sense, but to this extreme and to this extent is fascinating.

There are very little scientist and doctors exploring this mental biological phenomenon. Some sources and doctors say about half of the population have an inner dialogue and there are some sources and doctors that say that a small portion of people have an inner dialogue and vice versa. So, with those projected statistics, it is obvious that a lot more studies and examination must be done to get a stronger evaluation and understanding of this newly discovered phenomenon and question,

Which is "How does your mind work?"
